What's That Brown Stuff? The Complete Professor Monstera Feeding System

I get asked this question literally every single day. Every time I post a video of me feeding my Albos or Adansonii, the comments absolutely blow up with people asking about that brown stuff I'm pouring into the water.

So I figured it's about time I just sat down and explained the whole thing properly. And honestly, I don't want to waste your time here - I know how precious it is. So by the time you finish reading this, you'll know exactly what's in that brown mixture, why it works so bloody well, and how you can start using it yourself.

I'm also going to tell you about coco perlite and why it's going to solve your root rot problems forever. Plus I've got a bonus at the end that's normally in one of my other guides, but I reckon it's too important not to share with you right here.

The $6,000 Lesson That Nearly Broke Me

I've been growing Monstera Albos for over 10 years now. Just before COVID hit, I bought three absolutely beautiful Albo plants for $6,000 total. Big money, right? I killed them all.

I thought I knew what I was doing. I was using regular potting mix from Bunnings, maybe throwing in some Seasol when I remembered to. But I kept losing plants to root rot and I just couldn't figure out why the hell it kept happening.

Here's what I learned the hard way, and this is important - your plant's roots need oxygen to breathe. When that soil gets waterlogged (and let's be honest, I'm an overwaterer), there's no oxygen left. The roots literally suffocate and die. Plus there's this really nasty fungus called pythium that absolutely loves wet conditions and it'll eat your roots alive.

That's when I discovered coco perlite, and, it changed everything.

Why Coco Perlite Is A Game Changer

If you've never heard of coco perlite before, let me break it down for you. It looks like chunky brown bits mixed with white pebbles.

The brown stuff?

That's literally coconut fiber from coconut trees. What's amazing about this coconut stuff is it's like a sponge - it holds heaps of water and nutrients without causing those oxygen problems because it doesn't get waterlogged.

Think about a kitchen sponge for a second. It holds water but it's still got air pockets throughout it, right? That's exactly what coco does for your plant's roots. Those white pebbles are perlite - it's volcanic glass that's been puffed up like popcorn, and it creates even more air spaces.

So what happens is your roots get perfect drainage but they still retain moisture. They get oxygen AND water at the same time. Root rot becomes nearly impossible. And here's a bonus - zero pests. No more of those tiny black flies buzzing around your house.

I thought I'd solved everything. No more root rot, healthy roots, problem fixed, right?

Wrong.

The Yellowing Leaves That Had Me Stumped

Even with the coco perlite fixing all my root rot problems, I kept getting yellowing leaves on my plants. I'd wake up, check my plants, and there'd be another bloody yellow leaf. Then another one. It was driving me absolutely mental.

Here's what I didn't realize at the time - plants in coco perlite can't just grab nutrients from the medium like they do in regular soil. I was just giving them water, and they were slowly starving to death right in front of me.

That was my lightbulb moment. Yellowing leaves don't always mean you're overwatering or the plant's dying. Most of the time, it actually means your plant is starving.

But then I had to figure out what to feed them, how much, and how often. And here's the problem - there was absolutely nothing on the internet about feeding houseplants in coco perlite. The only people who had this stuff figured out were cannabis growers. They had detailed feeding schedules, exact measurements, week-by-week documentation of what actually worked.

So I spent months studying their methods, then I had to adapt everything for Monsteras, Adansonii, and Tetrasperma. These plants are way more delicate than cannabis - they don't produce fruit, they're more sensitive to overfeeding, and they need completely different ratios.

After countless experiments, losing more plants, and making adjustments, I finally cracked it. The brown formula that stops yellowing leaves forever and creates explosive growth instead.

So Here's How You Make The Professor Monstera Feed

So what actually goes into it? Into a liter of water, we're going to put these exact ingredients.

What type of water should you use?

For best results, you want water that doesn't have chlorine in it. All you need to do is grab some tap water and let it sit for 24 hours overnight - all the chlorine will just dissipate naturally. The reason this is important is because chlorine can kill those little beneficial bacteria we're about to add.

Into 1 liter of dechlorinated water, here's what goes in:

1/3 teaspoon AZOS - This stuff makes your roots absolutely explode. I'm talking roots so thick and white your pot will almost burst. AZOS contains over 100 million beneficial bacteria per gram. These little guys colonize your roots and help them absorb nutrients like crazy.

5 drops Tribus - This is like having bodyguards for your roots. Tribus has over 3 billion beneficial microorganisms per milliliter that protect your roots from dying. They kill anything that's trying to eat your roots and create this protective barrier around them.

10ml GT Foliage Focus - This is complete plant food in one bottle. Everything your plant needs to grow is right there.

1 drop Grow Genius Silica - This makes your leaves thick like leather and stops brown edges forever. This stuff is so concentrated you literally only need one tiny drop.

Why Massive Roots Change Everything

Remember back in school when they taught us about skyscrapers? A 10-meter tall building needs about 20 meters of foundation underground to stay stable. Same principle applies to plants.

When your roots explode with this formula, everything else follows. Your leaves get massive and thick. The variegation becomes more intense and beautiful. Growth speeds up like you wouldn't believe. And the plant becomes virtually indestructible.

Here's what you'll actually see happening week by week:

Week 1: Your roots explode with healthy white growth, and those yellowing leaves stop appearing.

Week 2: New leaves start emerging bigger and stronger than you've ever seen before.

Week 3: You'll notice zero brown leaf tips because the silica prevents this completely.

Week 4: The variegation becomes more intense, and the growth rate literally doubles.

Your Bonus: Complete Pest Elimination

Now I promised you a bonus, and here it is. This is actually taken from my other guide called the "Complete Pest Elimination Guide." I'm giving you this because one of the things I hear most from my Profmonties (that's what we call my fans), is how when they switch over to coco, the first thing they notice is all those pests just disappear. Those little flying things are just gone.

It's something I noticed too when I first made the switch. But sometimes you might inherit a plant that already has pests, or you might just get unlucky. So here's exactly how to eliminate every plant pest for good:

No More Bugs - Use 1ml per liter of water. You pour this into the coco AND spray it all over the plant. This stuff kills fungus gnats, root aphids, thrips, spider mites - basically everything. And it kills them at every life stage, so eggs, larvae, adults, the lot.

Green Cleaner Plant Wash - Spray this directly on the leaves weekly. It's perfect for aphids, whiteflies, scale, mealybugs. It basically suffocates soft-bodied insects on contact.

Use these two together and you'll never have pest problems again. I guarantee it.
